lyrics

I’m getting old and the bones are sore,
I thought I was getting old when I hit 94.
I’ve had a full day once again;
oh dear, won’t you just reach for the medicine?
I looked at the end time right in the eye
but the Lord looked back and said
you’re not ready to die.
And God I get it though it’s hard to see
You’re hard to read-
You better hold me close cuz You know how I can be.
The losses pile up over all these years; I crawled up
near the altar where You caught my tears.
The lessons never end, it’s just one of those things:
the way the wonder waltzes in and starts to sing.
So distant from the fire that once lit up my constellation.
change a fiercely independent soul, why don’t You break right through
the terms of this agreement that I fashioned for myself?
It might be the age when all I would want is
a customary seat at a restaurant.
But I’m dreaming big with the time that’s left.
I promise I’ll be good while You do the rest.

about

Miriam Marston Portland, Oregon

I started composing when I was 10. I called one of my first songs "Nostalgia", although I can't recall what my ten year old self was so nostalgic about. Released my first album in 2000. Things got busy, but I never stopped writing. Even if it meant composing on a mostly-broken piano in the basement of a university that I wasn't even enrolled in. Enjoy all the music and reading! Pax.
